AARDO International Workshop in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Training.
The Disaster Management Training Centre provides long term programmes, short courses and seminars to enhance national and regional capacity for preparedness and management of natural disasters. The Centre is responsible for developing, programming, coordinating and delivery of the training courses in liaison with target beneficiary organizations.
From 14-18 January, 2013, The Disaster Management Training Centre (DMTC) hosted an International Workshop in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Training on behalf of the Afro-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO). The training attracted participants from India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Iraq, Lebanon, Taiwan and Mauritius. Also present was AARDO Head of Research Dr. Sajeeb Kumar form India. The conference was officially opened by Mulungushi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Hellicy C. Ng'ambi.
Participants shared experiences on disaster risk reduction and management from their countries. During the training, participants visited Makululu informal settlement, a flood prone settlement of Kabwe District and the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) Head office in Lusaka.
On the last day, participants were presented with certificates by AARDO Chair representative in Zambia, Mr. Collins Mulonda in the presence of the Vice Chancellor and the Deputy Vice Chancellor.
