The School of Agriculture & Natural Resources is offering a Master’s Programme in Climate Change and Sustainable Development, designed to equip professionals with advanced knowledge and practical skills to address climate-related challenges affecting sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The programme provides an interdisciplinary approach covering climate science, policy, sustainability, geospatial technologies, and resilience strategies. Students gain expertise in climate change mitigation and adaptation, climate governance, urban environmental management, and research methods, preparing them to develop innovative, climate-resilient solutions for communities and institutions.

A key course in the programme, Local Solutions for Energy Access, has been adapted under the Transforming Energy Access – Learning Partnership (TEA-LP), a collaborative initiative with University of Cape Town. This multidisciplinary course introduces students to the Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) sector, enabling them to analyse energy access challenges, evaluate policy and regulatory frameworks, explore financing mechanisms, and develop community-based renewable energy solutions.

Developed in collaboration with the Southern African Regional Universities Association, the programme aligns with the global climate agenda and supports the achievement of the United Nations Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At Zambia Qualifications Framework (ZQF) Level 9, the programme prepares graduates to become critical thinkers, researchers, and practitioners capable of translating climate science into effective policies, strategies, and sustainable development initiatives.
